Our Story

Hearts were being stirred and the vision of a church formed. This was the beginning of Hope Church as several families came together to seek God’s direction about starting a church in the Crystal Lake area. They were in constant prayer for guidance and desired to become a people sharing the HOPE found in a commitment to Jesus and each other. They began meeting regularly twice a month for over one year, and in the fall of 1979, Hope Evangelical Covenant Church was launched. The first service was held at Canterbury Elementary School. After five years, they began growing as a congregation and discerned that it was time to purchase land, establishing themselves permanently in the community.

After a two-year search, this small but committed group of people purchased 5.5 acres at Ackman and Randall roads and broke ground in November of 1991. Construction progressed steadily in 1991-1992. Members of the congregation played a significant part by participating in 6,000 hours of labor for projects such as floors, heating system, painting, woodwork, landscape, sound system and lights. The first Sunday in the new building was November 15, 1992. The ministries continued to grow, and the community was impacted with the HOPE found in Jesus Christ!

This mission moves into the 21st century, as Hope Church continues to share the HOPE of Jesus. We are a Bible-believing, committed group of Christ-followers. Hope Church is a close, supportive family where we care for one another, our community, and our world. Children and youth are an important, valued part of our family, with programs designed just for them. Ministries for women, men, seniors, and families are part of our Hope Church community. It is our practice to bring all generations together to worship, serve, and fellowship as a family. We invite you to join us on our journey as together we grow in relationship with God.

In August 2023, Hope Church welcomed Lead Pastor Ben Torres to our staff. We thank God for calling Pastor Ben to serve at Hope Church, and we are excited to continue to impact our community under his leadership, teaching, pastoral care, and vision for the future.
